Reviews: RUNES OF RAGNAN and PULL LIST: 7-13-05

I’m being forced to take a much more relaxed approach to when I get reviews up. Especially the Pull List reviews, which take much longer for me to do than I always expect them to.

So, with that in mind, I posted a couple of reviews earlier this week and forgot to tell you about them:

Runes of Ragnan

Pull List featuring:
Serenity #1
Action Comics #829
JLA #116
Seven Soldiers: Guardian #3
Rann-Thanagar War #3
All-Star Batman & Robin, the Boy Wonder #1
Fables #39
Mnemovore #4
New Avengers #7

Mailbag

Went to the post office tonight to mail some Tales from the Inner Sanctum and picked up some mail in the process. Wanna know what I got? Okay.

Johnny Public #9 from Hula Cat Comics. So far I’ve loved everything I’ve read from these guys. They’re basically very fancy mini-comics. I haven’t read any Johnny Public though, so it’ll be interesting to see what it’s like coming in on the middle of the series.

Death Comes to Monkeysuit: A Monkeysuit Anthology #5. Nice, thick book. The art is varied, professional, and fun to look at. Looking forward to digging into this.

Myriad #1-3. I gave the first issue of this anthology series a mixed review, but the guys were cool enough to send me the next two issues (as well as another copy of #1). Gonna keep an open mind about the stories I didn’t like in #1, but I’m looking forward to the continuations of a couple of stories.

Milestone

I’m really nervous about announcing this for some reason. I think I don’t want to jinx it.

But I’ve signed the paperwork and am going to mail it today, so I think it’s safe. And it’s not the kind of news that anyone else is going to want to be first to announce.

I just sold my first piece of fiction to IDW. It’s a prose short story called “Completely Cold” and it’ll appear as a back-up feature to all of their September comics. Especially cool for me is the fact that The Keep #1, which is adapted from one of my all-time favorite horror novels, is coming out that month.

Big sigh. Still nervous.

Resolution

I’ve been saying this for a couple of years now, but I have got to get to San Diego Comic-Con next year. This is my first year as Editor in Chief of Comic World News and I’m actually getting invitations to parties and press conferences and stuff. I wasn’t expecting that.

Now that I know, I need to plan to be there next year.
